Aussie Friends of VOLSET

~ assisting those who have less than us ~

Welcome

What is Aussie Friends of VOLSET?

It all started in November 2005, when Stacey and Kathy undertook 5 weeks of volunteer work in villages in the Ntenjeru sub-county of Kampala, Uganda. We worked with a small NGO (non governmental organisation) called VOLSET who does HIV related work, in particular education and child advocacy, with the people of Ntenjeru.

There are no other words to descibed VOLSET and Festus (the director), than FANTASTIC, INSPIRATIONAL and COMPASSIONATE.

When we got back to western life in Australia we decided we would continue to help our new family in Ntenjeru - so we set up Aussie Friends of VOLSET, this web site and all its associated activities.

What is VOLSET?

VOLSET is an acronym for The Voluntary Services Trust Team.  It was founded in 1997 in a volunteer General Meeting held in the Science Lab at Nakaseke Secondary School, Luwero District.  VOLSET is registered in the Republic of Uganda as a Charitable NGO under the Uganda NGOs Board in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.  Membership is open to AIDS Prevention Clubs and the community regardless of political, religious or other affiliations.  VOLSET is a non-profit organization.
